Because the family spends a lot of time outside, the pool area was designed to be the centerpiece of the property. It features a large, wraparound flagstone patio, a spa, waterfall, fireplace and an outdoor kitchen. Strategically placed boulders take the place of a diving board. Nearby steps wind up to an observation deck.

The outdoor spaces also include two putting greens - one outside the guest house and the other inside the children's gated play area. Both are covered with artificial turf instead of grass to cut down on maintenance and to reduce the likelihood of attracting desert critters. Monitors allow Sandy to check up on the children outdoors via the television.

With a variety of seating areas and functions, the courtyard is perfect for both family fun and entertaining large groups. A waterfall spills over boulders that also are used for "cliff diving." The guest house can be seen on the opposite side of the pool. Stairs leading to an observation deck wrap around the fireplace. An outdoor kitchen is tucked into the far corner. Low-maintenance synthetic stucco covers the exterior of the house.
