Like so many Arizona abodes, this one has an outdoor living space just off the family room, complete with a grill, directed misters and shaded spaces. Inside, there are 11 bathrooms and seven bedrooms, a servants' wing and an elevator between the master bedroom and lower-level exercise room. But the essence of this house is not in the incredible expanse, it's in the story of the people who inhabit it.

The couple met at the gym in 1991 and married in Sedona. Randy has coached many of his son's sports teams, and Sandy often pauses in what she's doing to

watch her 3-year-old sleep on the family-room sofa. They are soft where you would expect hard, simple where you might expect high-maintenance. They are dedicated.

The design of this home is simply an outgrowth of their desire to live well in the desert, to entertain friends and to incorporate their children, including Randy's two sons from a previous marriage, into their daily lives. The house is a far cry from the days of Sandy's childhood, which she spent in Ohio, but it still contains the family's memories within its walls.
